Renovation + Building Rehabilitation

Cottage Rehabilitation

Built

Cottage Rehabilitation is the renovation of a small existing residence that needed significant repair and modernization. The project addressed deteriorated building conditions while reorganizing and updating the interior for contemporary living. Rather than replacing the cottage, the work focused on preserving what was useful, repairing what had failed, and giving the house another life.

Design Story

Rehabilitation projects often begin with conditions that aren't apparent until construction is underway. At the Cottage, portions of the exterior walls and foundation required substantial repair, creating an opportunity to improve the building envelope while retaining the basic form and character of the original house.

Inside, the renovation opened and reorganized the living spaces and rebuilt the kitchen around a more functional layout. New windows, finishes, cabinetry, lighting, and building systems were integrated into the existing structure rather than treating the house as a blank slate. The result is a modest home renewed through targeted intervention rather than unnecessary replacement.
