ABOUT NP23 DESIGN
NP23 Design is a residential design practice founded by Vaughan Miller, bringing together a lifelong interest in architecture with decades of experience understanding how buildings support the people who use them.
Vaughan earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and began his design career working in architecture, visualization, and three-dimensional modeling. His professional path also included a 36-year career in the fire service, where buildings were experienced from a very different perspective—not simply as objects, but as places that have to work for the people inside them.

That combination of architecture and operational experience continues to influence the way Vaughan approaches residential design. Good design begins with understanding how people actually live—their routines, frustrations, priorities, and the things about their home they already value.
The objective isn’t to impose a particular architectural style or make a project larger than it needs to be. It’s to identify the right changes, explore them clearly, and develop a solution that feels appropriate to the house, the site, and the people who live there.
Today, Vaughan continues his professional architectural work with a particular focus on public-safety facilities while undertaking selected residential projects through NP23 Design. Residential projects provide an opportunity to work directly with homeowners on a more personal scale—from focused renovations and outdoor living spaces to additions and new homes.
